Hi Grey-lady,
I have no idea what’s going on with your meter, but if it were mine, I’d replace it. If you do some research, you might be able to find freebies on the internet, and sometimes the pharmacy has boxes with great rebates attached so you don’t pay much if anything.
I’ve never used anyone’s meters except for Lifescan, and that’s been true since I bought my first one, maybe 25 years ago. I’ve never had one problem with any of them (maybe 6 over the years), not once. I love their customer service, and it seems like they bend over backwards to try to help. They make the Ultra line of meters. The strips are easily 50 cents each, though, even though I’ve never paid a cent for any of the actual meters. Thank God for insurance.
Lots of people love Wal-Mart’s meters, which are called Reli-On. Very reasonably priced, I understand, and they perform well, so there is that idea.

Hi I am a new member also. Take pills and insulin and my A1C is 5.4. My problem is I weigh almost 400 pounds and I can’t exercise. I am in a wheelchair for my back and use oxygen for three different lung diseases. I take steroids for the lungs and that and the insulin keep me stuck where I am and I am only 45 years old. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Katherine
